Columbus Col-Weld was founded by William Stump in 1941. The company originally specialized in rebuilding engine blocks and cylinder heads. It gradually expanded
to include other services such as reconditioning connecting rods, precision grinding of crankshafts and camshafts, and other milling and lathe work. The company has grown considerable
over the years to include clients as far away as Mexico and Zimbabwe. The castings it repairs range from industrial engines to piano frames.
Engine Rebuilders Supply (ERS)
was started in 1979, originally as a parts warehouse for Col-Weld. Parts would typically take 3-5 days to get, delaying engine-rebuilding projects. Stump's sons (who currently run both businesses) decided that it would be easier to stock the parts, and give their customers quicker turn-around on their engine work. They also opened ERS to the public. Today, ERS carries parts
from small engines all the way up to sleeve assemblies for Cummins and Caterpillar engines. Both companies are staffed with mechanics with at least 10 years experience.
